1. Types of Families

In this chapter, we explore how different families are structured in the modern world:

Nuclear/Traditional A couple and their biological children living together.
Single-parent One parent (mum or dad) raising children alone.
Blended A family consisting of a couple and children from previous relationships (step-parents/step-siblings).
Extended Multiple generations living together (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins).
Adoptive Parents who have legally brought children from other biological parents into their family.
2. Relationship Vocabulary

  • Get together: To meet socially (e.g., family reunions).
  • Praise: To express admiration or approval of someone’s work.

3. Grammar: Relative Clauses

Relative clauses give us more information about a person or thing. We use Relative Pronouns to connect them:

WHO / WHOM

Used for People.
Example: The man who lives next door is a doctor.

WHICH

Used for Things/Animals.
Example: The cat which is sitting on the wall is mine.

WHOSE

Used for Possession (Kepunyaan).
Example: That is the girl whose brother won the race.

THAT

Used for People or Things (often in informal/defining clauses).
